I think they're widescreen monitors set in Landscape mode instead of Portrait.

no way :) I don't think its possible to just invert the monitor position and still be able to use it..

Yep, you just press Ctrl+Alt+(Arrow Button) to change the orientation :)
(On a Windows machine that is)

They are just regular monitors that swivel, most new LCDs do this.
